Kundip circuit breaker is an automatically operated electrical switch designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by excess current from an overload or short circuit.
Its basic function is to interrupt current flow after a fault is detected. Unlike a fuse, which operates once and then must be replaced, a circuit breaker can be reset manually with push to reset button switch to resume normal operation.
This is a single-pole, precision thermal circuit breaker with a push to reset red button on top. This circuit breaker has a thread neck panel mounting arrangement and can be fitted easily with the plastic knurled nut.
It is the same as the rocker actuated circuit breaker, the contacts open and close with a snap action.
The push-button clearly extends out when the circuit breaker trips off.
Pressing it in resets the trip mechanism and restores the supply.
One of the advantages of using a thermal circuit breaker for equipment, over a fuse, for instance, is that the circuit breaker is not as sensitive to the inrush currents associated with the start-up of motors and transformers.
This means that it is not only the rated current of the load that determines the selection of a circuit breaker, but other parameters such as inrush current, overload capacity, operating duty, or ambient temperature that must also be taken into consideration.
Many special types of motors can withstand short periods of overload. In these cases, the rated current of
the circuit breaker can be selected with a wider tolerance to prevent the circuit breaker from tripping unnecessarily.
The motor’s specifications and/or the overload capacity of the protected load must be taken into account as well; these factors being strongly dependent on the equipment’s operating mode.
